Otto is a handsome 4 year old boy that came from the Ontario animal shelter. He went into a shelter sponsored foster home where he did fine for a week. Then he came to BRLA. Otto needs a strong leader as he can be selective with what may cause him to react. He walks with many Boxers at BRLA but can be selective with new dogs he meets. He greets volunteers nicely and passes some strangers without blinking an eye, but there can be something about someone he sees that causes concern and possible reactivity. His behavior is manageable and in the right home can be improved as he is a very good boy in the right hands and environment.
Otto has a very high prey drive. He can spot a cat when out on a walk and small animals like squirrels are a challenge as well. Definitely no cats at home please. Otto should go to an adult only home with good leadership as previous home experienced a resource guarding incident. Otto will do best with someone who loves to train and is able to provide lots of exercise, like a runner. Releasing endorphins can help create more focus, more exposure and less reactivity. With dedication and some work, Otto can become an good companion dog. We think being the only dog in the home will give him the focus to build confidence in the outside world. He does bark for attention and when alone so someone around more than not is best. Otto is ready to blossom into the dog you make him at home when you put in the work he needs.
