KONA

Hi! My Name Is KONA

I'm Available

Kona is a very special young lady. She is about 1-1/2 years old and was rescued from the Kern County animal shelter. She was frozen with fear and had kennel cough. The shelter was full and she was at risk.  She went home with a lovely family that saw her desperation so made the leap to get her out of a kill shelter. They planned to foster her and then find the very best home for her.  They have two male dogs and 2 kids at home.  Kona relates to kids and dogs very well but can still be timid with adults.

She has come out of her shell a little bit, the dogs and kids help, but she is still very fearful of the outside world. Her foster family have gotten her to walk about one block, but even with the other dogs alone encouraging her, it's a struggle for Kona.

Kona had missed out on normal socializing and engagement as a pup. She is making progress but is going to need a home that is set up to continue working with her.

We feel another nice dog in the home will be key for Kona. A balanced boy will give her the confidence to try new things and gain confidence.

If there are kids in the home, it's a bonus for Kona. She connects with their innocent spirits. She still shies away from some adults.

Helping a dog gain confidence is all about providing them with your strength and confidence. She will need to trust her new humans to be able to follow their lead. It's easy to feel sorry for shy dogs but they don't need pity, they need strength.

Kona needs a home familiar with working with shy/fearful dogs. A home where she is not alone for extended periods of time. A home where she has a backyard she becomes familiar with for fun and doing her business.

Kona will bloom in the right home. She has already begun the process in her foster home. They love her to pieces but know that 3 dogs are too many and that Kona deserves to never feel like a third wheel.

She loves her crate and will go in on command. She is housebroken. Kona is petite weighing in at just 43 pounds.

Kona has been going home with BRLA employee who reports that she is super sweet, mellow and a complete joy to have around. She loves her new mastiff BFF.
