GUSTO

Hi! My Name Is GUSTO

I'm Available

Gusto is under a year old and was surrendered by a backyard breeder. The parent Boxer dad at home was bullying the pups. He arrived covered in scars from incidents and from reportedly trying to get away over or through the fence.  He arrived a life virgin, had no experience in the outside world and was terrified of anything new or loud.  Gus went into foster to acclimate him with life and he has done well. He is now familiar with walking on leash and more used to the sights and sounds of the world. He can still be a flight risk with sudden new noises like a trash truck, a bus or construction site. He is a work in progress and needs a steady confident human and canine guides to continue his acclimation.  He enjoys the company of balanced social female dogs and needs a mature one in his life for security and to serve as a mentor.  He has some residual trauma from his dog dad and can be apprehensive (defensive) around some male dogs or any dog that comes on too strong. His new home needs to be able to read his body language and keep his relationships positive and building new friendships.  Gus is still shy at first with people but warms up quickly.  He was good with the kids in his original home and continues to show affection of children. He is going to be as big as a horse and can already run like one. An active home is a must for this athletic boy who is currently walking/running 2 - 3 miles a day.  He loves toys, loves to chew things, many that he shouldn't and he is playful with dogs he feels safe with but can play rough.  He has learned to use the dog door and is almost housebroken. He puts himself to bed in his crate at night.  You can see the kind soul that resides in this boy who did not get the chance to develop confidence as a puppy. He still has some separation issues which is why a companion female dog and a home where someone is home the majority of the time will help Gusto fully bloom into an incredible boy over time and with help.  He is a very special boy and needs an equally special BRLA home.
