Derby came from a breeder in Kentucky and she runs like a thoroughbred so the name Derby seemed fitting. Her family has rescued an adult Boxer in the past but the responsibility of providing the leadership to build confidence in an insecure pup was more than expected. Derby came to BRLA very insecure/fearful. In our controlled environment and skilled hands she built up her confidence quickly. She became the bell of the BRLA ball, making canine friends easily and trusting all humans. But her confidence is completely dependent on her environment being calm and controlled. Since Derby can become insecure and overwhelmed an adult only home with lots of training experience and without a lot of coming and going is what will work for Derby. She is a wonderful little girl but until she has been slowly and thoroughly settled and confident, her fear can turn to reaction if not avoided. In the right training hands and predictable environment she is happy and fun loving. She is a pocket boxer of only about 40 lbs. Derby is looking for a human that will put in the time and be her confident guide to the world and to be her protector from surprises to keep her on track. She is housebroken and crate trained.
