Happy New Year from BRLA

Looking Back - While Looking Ahead

2008 at BRLA
The economic crisis of 2008 made this a very challenging year. Nearly everyone felt the affects.  People lost their jobs, then their home and then their beloved pet. Boxer Rescue LA (BRLA) was there to help with the difficult reality of taking in and finding new homes for hundreds of displaced family Boxers.

The landslide of newly homeless Boxers this year provided the opportunity for thinking outside the box. In addition to our wonderfully-active contributors and our highly committed core of volunteers, several outstanding organizations came together to not only keep the BRLA doors open, but to expand our  ability to provide help to those who needed it.

As a result, 839 Boxers found new homes in 2008

Here are the highlights:

Without Borders Boxer Rescue

wbbr
Our Canadian partner, Without Borders Boxer Rescue (WBBR), experienced an increase in the demand for Boxers in the Pacific Northwest and Canada this year. The timing could not have been better and they placed more than 100 BRLA boxers into fantastic homes. BRLA and WBBR have worked together for seven years and the organization continues to grow and spread the love of Boxers. Each Boxer adopted over the years is a   walking billboard for the breed and for our rescue efforts. As more people are exposed to Boxers in the North, an increasing number want to adopt them.  This growth spurt could not have come at a better time to help BRLA , and we expect it to continue.

Banfield Veterinarian School

Banfiled
Many rescue organizations will not take a sick or injured dog because of the high cost of medical care. BRLA is different. If any Boxer has a chance, we try to find a way to help. Banfield Veterinarian School has become a fantastic resource helping us through these trying times. BRLA has long-standing relationships with the vets that run this brand new state-of-the-art teaching facility. They provide quality animal medical care at a greatly reduced cost to rescues. The students are talented, enthusiastic and taught by some of the most innovated vets in the U.S.  Without partners like Banfield, we would not have been able to save many of the medical cases we did this year.

BRLA

BRLA
BRLA faced the flood of homeless Boxers this year and met the challenge head on. Thanks to the entire BRLA team working behind the scenes and on the front lines with the Boxers, we had a record breaking-number of adoptions. From our local and Canadian teams we placed more than 800 Boxers into permanent homes, provided medical treatment to hundreds dogs, and feed and sheltered an average of 100 dogs on any given day.

Fortunately, through the generosity of supporters like you, our contributions kept pace with the overwhelming increase in need.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

It is doubtful that the economic situation will turn around quickly so we brace ourselves for another challenging year. There is no doubt that BRLA has the commitment and the passion to continue saving Boxers as long as they need saving.  We ask that you open your hearts and donate to BRLA to continue saving lives. We need you now more than ever.

We know that times are tough for everyone, but if you can find it in your heart to make a donation of any amount, it will mean the difference between life and death.

It is you that makes the difference and we need your continued support.

Sincerely,

P.S. Keep in mind that all donations to BRLA are tax deductible…and what other tax deduction will lick your face?
